About (01)

“AN OBJECT’S MOTION CANNOT CHANGE UNLESS IT IS ACTED UPON BY A FORCE”– NEWTON

Behzad Farazollahi (b. 1978, Tehran) is an artist and a curator based in Oslo. He is the co-founder and director of MELK, a project-space based in Oslo, that focuses on new Scandinavian photography. Farazollahi has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions in institutions such as Oslo Kunstforening (NO), Kunstnernes Hus (NO), Lillehammer Kunstmuseum (NO), Haugar Vestfold Kunstmuseum (NO), No Place (NO), Kalmar Kunstmuseum (SE), Wetterling Gallery (SE), Fotografisk center (DK), Finish Museum of Photography (FI) Pulsar Antweropen (BE), London Pride Gallery (UK), REA Buenos Aires (AR) and others.

Thematically, his work explores presence through more direct topics such as memory, movement, materiality, and by creating physical constructed spaces and environments in which he engages with human perception, sensation, and our understanding of an image, trying out different materials, techniques, and dimensions.

Farazollahi’s conceptual and experimenting approach to photography is mainly based around the medium’s possibilities to strengthen a physical visuality in each image, using a decisive method of production and presentation unique to each project.
